Mike and Dog debate the Mendoza hiring
INT. WFAN STUDIO - DAY
MIKE FRANCESA sits behind the microphone, wearing his signature headphones and glasses. Across from him sits CHRISTOPHER "MAD DOG" RUSSO, his face flushed with excitement.
MIKE FRANCESA: It's been a crazy week in Mets land, Dog.
CHRISTOPHER "MAD DOG" RUSSO: Yeah, Mikey, it's been a wild ride with the hiring of Carlos Mendoza as the new Mets manager.
MIKE FRANCESA: Mendoza, huh? I don't know about this one, Dog. I mean, he's never been a manager before. He's been a bench coach, sure, but that's not the same thing, uhkay.
CHRISTOPHER "MAD DOG" RUSSO: Oh, come on, Mikey, don't be such a Debbie Downer. Mendoza is a smart baseball man. He's been around the game for a long time, and he knows what it takes to win.
MIKE FRANCESA: I know he's been around the game, but he's never been around the New York Mets. This is a different animal, Dog. The Mets are a pressure cooker, and Mendoza has never been under that kind of heat before.
CHRISTOPHER "MAD DOG" RUSSO: I'm telling you, Mikey, Mendoza is up to the task. He's a tough guy, and he's not afraid to make tough decisions. That's exactly what the Mets need right now.
MIKE FRANCESA: I'm not so sure, Dog. I'm just worried that Mendoza is going to be in over his head. The Mets fans are going to eat him alive if he doesn't win right away.
CHRISTOPHER "MAD DOG" RUSSO: Oh, come on, Mikey, the Mets fans are always going to be tough on their managers. But Mendoza is a New Yorker, he knows how to deal with them.
MIKE FRANCESA: I don't know, Dog. I'm still not convinced. I just have a bad feeling about this whole thing.
CHRISTOPHER "MAD DOG" RUSSO: Well, I'm telling you, Mikey, Mendoza is going to be a great manager for the Mets. He's going to lead them to the Promised Land.
MIKE FRANCESA: We'll see about that, Dog. We'll see about that.
